5 Ways to Boost your CreativityBy James Cook on Fri, 06/14/2013 - 13:23
No matter what your education, experience or personal interests are, everyone has the capability to be creative. However, most of us find that when the need to be creative arises, we have trouble finding inspiration. Here are 5 ways to help:
1. Take a walk every day
Most of us lead very busy lives, rushing from point A to point B while trying to complete all of the days tasks. However, why not allocate 20 minutes of your day to doing nothing in particular, in this case walking. Being outside, looking at things and talking to people can be a great way of getting a fresh perspective.
2. Have fun with your colleagues
Joking around with your friends or work colleagues creates a positive, friendly atmosphere and helps remove any apprehension that might be present when communicating a new idea or approach. It also makes the day more fun!
3. Listen to Music
This is a great way of focusing your mind and triggering your imagination. Music has the power to send our thoughts in particular directions and because there are so many different types of songs, those directions are almost limitless. So next time you are stuck for an idea, throw on your headphones and play your favourite track!
4. Eat Well
It is always tempting to grab a quick tasty snack when we are working but foods that are high in sugar only give you a boost in the short term and wear off very quickly. Carbohydrates, found in whole grain foods, break down very slowly and this gives you hours of fuel to keep your brain running optimally.
5. Try new things
Taking risks and trying new things can be daunting to many people but it is always rewarding to the mind, whether a success or not. In contrast, performing the same tasks over and over can lead to becoming un-inspired and bored. So, the next time someone asks you if you would like to go see that play everyone has been talking about (yes, I said a play), go for it! What’s the worst that could happen?
